That's true that GEOS suffered for a long time of the lack of video
drivers (limited to VGA 800x600x16 in the best case, if you had the
right video hardware).
Some German people wrote some drivers that make use of the VESA
standard, allowing you to get 1280*1024*64K colors, IIRC. 24-bit is also
supported (in lower res, 1024*768 IIRC).
These drivers have been slightly improved and incorporated into New Deal
Office. They work very well, provided your card offers a good support of
VESA (1.2 at least). Current modern video hardware is usually very
efficient with VESA.
Another limitation came from the applications themselves that could were
not designed to handle such numerous colors. Now, most of them makes use
of these colors, if necessary and if possible.
BTW, the DOS AOL browser is no more provided by New Deal Office, because
AOL officially stated that it will not be supported nor accepted for
connection anymore.
