<<Then I would use
something like Partition Magic (which I have not acquired yet) to
create a new partition, which I suppose would be D:. (Presumably this
would bump my Zip and CD drives down to E: and F:. They are now D: and
E:.) I want to *keep* my current 'doze system, which is why I would
think that I need to use something like Partition Magic rather than
FDISK to create a FAT16 partition. >>

With PARTITION MAGIC you should create another C: partition on which
you will install DRDOS. You then hide either the C: partition with
WINDOWS from the DRDOS partition or vice versa. It is esily done with
PARTITION MAGIC. The drive letters for the ZIP disc and CDROM will not
change.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to read anything on the Windows C:
disc when you boot with DRDOS. If this is a problem, then you must create
another partition as a D: disc and move whatever you want to read under
both Windows and DRDOS to that partition. This of course will change the
drive letters of the ZIP drive and the CDROM drive. The new D: disc must
be FAT16 unless DRDOS 7.02 can read FAT32. I don't know since I am using
the old NOVELL DRDOS (7.00?) which cannot read FAT32.
All of the above can be easily done with PARTITION MAGIC. all can also
be done with FDISK but is much more complicated. I heartily recommend the
investment in Partition Magic.
