Try "help emm386" and "help taskmgr" commands. Basically, it
suffices to have a "DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE MULTI=ON" in
config.sys and start the task manager when you want to enter
the multi mode (taskmgr). E.g. you can put it in autoexec.bat
BTW, the "setup" program does it in a "friendly" way.
You can choose the keys for switching, like Ctrl-Alt-[+,-,ins,del]
