Actually, CP/M bears *very*
little resemblence to or
influence from Unix -- the
early, pre-VMS proprietary
DEC OSs like TOPS were much
more of a factor in CP/M's
design.

CP/M *always* supported
floppy drives, from the very
first release for the Intel
MDS system. The modularity
that made it so easily
adaptable to a variety of
hardware within the
8080/8085/Z80 CPU families
came later on, with version
2.x.
