Basically this list is for Open DOS, which came from DR-DOS,
which came from Novell DOS, which came from DR DOS,
which came from CP/M which came from UNIX by way of
Gary Kildall. This first operating system did not support
disk or tape drives and was transported across many of
the 8-bit systems and then to the Intel family. Gary Kildall
formed Digital Research and was involved in many other
computer projects which included Mainframe and
Minicomputers, software, and hardware, and the first
(D)isk (O)perating (S)ystem, before there was any
MS or PC DOS. It is still considered to be the best DOS
by many users.

There is a lot of discussion about the different things that happen
to people using DOS applications with different DOS's how to fix
problems which occur to different computer configurations in
the DOS world. We also have a lot of people here who use
MS Windows with DOS, with varying experiences, and success
varies from person to person and system to system.

You can download Open DOS/DR-DOS from ftp://www.lineo.com
and you can even get the source files from several linked sites
where list members have made them available. If you wanted to
use your programmers skills there are probably some things
you would find of interest to you. You can go to http://www.Delorie.com
and check out the archives for some of the things discussed on this list.

Hope you find something here of interest.
