Unix shell accounts don't do ppp. If you're using web spider to connect to a shell account, you're going to have a *lot* of difficulties. About the only way this would work is if the shell offered something like slurp or tia to emulate a ppp connection even though you're not actually on one. Otherwise, you can't do it. Use a terminal program instead, it'll work much better.
