I'm not sure about this one, but usually DR-DOS COMMAND.COM should
provide the same functionality regarding long filenames as MS-DOS 7+
COMMAND.COM does (except for the LFNFOR command). Have you tried
the current issue of COMMAND.COM as available on Caldera's web-server?

As far as I know, it already does, if the driver has been loaded
before the shell - at least with 4DOS 6.00+ (to my knowledge the 
current issue is 6.01a).
