Some programs have some trouble with some versions of DPMI.  I forget what
reasons are, but I believe you'll find details on the technical problem in
your Borland README file.

The only solution I can think of besides yours is to use alternate
programs that either don't use DPMI or don't crash under DR-DOS.

One alternate program you can use is PKUNZIP, which works fine for me.

In this case, you can use MAKER (the real-mode make which doesn't use
DPMI).  See your README for more details.
