Star Office is just like MS-Office and can read and write Word 6.0 and
Excel. I think Aplixware from Redhat is an office suite too. Also there is
Word Perfect for Linux.

Yes lots of mail readers, worse comes to worse you can use Netscape for mail

there are zip and unzip utilites out there but I havent found one thats a
simple to use as winzip, but I am sure if you look sombody will have one

lots of news readers, again there is always Netscape
