Subject: Re: Bug List - where?

Captains Log, Stardate 3 May 98 19:45, Glenn W. McCorkle:
: What bugs? This is OpenDos, not MSDosn't.
: I've been using DR_DOS v5.0, then DR_DOS v6.0 and now OpenDos v7.0
: for over 5 years. I've yet to find a single bug of any kind.

Well, aren't YOU the lucky one!
<sarcasm on>
Maybe you don't run your system particularly hard, or have a low end system.
If you did, you might find that some (and I note some) software distinctly
doesn't like the way EMM386 handles DPMI (in fact, it's considered by some to
be downright buggy) and they suggest using another DPMI provider, such as
CWSDPMI - a freeware implementation from Charles Sandman.
</sarcasm>
However, in the main I have found Opendos to be stable and well behaved.
Once you get used to the differences (or improvements) from MS it seems to
feel better except for the batch behaviour. I STILL haven't managed to get
FOR %f.c IN (*.c) ren %f.c 32%f.c
to work how I want it to work. 8-(

 : Incompatability with certain MS windows programs every now and
then. : But 'bugs'? None, ever.

Well, I beg to differ. I can't get one of my programs to play songs off an
audio CD under Windows 3.1, because as far as Windows is concerned, it
doesn't exist unless it has a directory and can be read by File Manager.
This is with NWCDEX instead of MSCDEX (which I haven't tried yet - sheesh, I
have to find it yet...) If I try the same thing under DOS, instant success.

I understand there were a whole stack of bugs relating to the LongFile
support, and wanted to know if there was anything I hadn't seen yet relating
to other programs in the OpenDOS suite aside from why EMM386 DPMI didn't work.
Thanks for any other replies - as far as I'm concerned, this reply to my
first message was (well-earned!) flamebait!
