DxxSPACE on an 8088?  <shudder>  What a sinister idea!

Some viruses can also cause this type of behavior.  You might try
downloading and running this:  garbo.uwasa.fi/pc/virus/killmk3.zip
If this program finds a virus, I strongly recommend that you use it
to clean *every* floppy you own.
