What happens, if you try to boot from your XT s fixed disk without LOADER installed?
Do you have other operating systems installed on this machine, too?

So it looks as if you would *not* have run into this nasty FAT32 problem... ;-)

Do you have a disk compression software (DRVSPACE?) or security driver installed?
What does DR-OpenDOS  FDISK know about the drives partitioning? Please try a clean
boot with F5/F7/F8 to get rid of any extra driver, and try to access your C: drive from
this minimal setup.
