Yes, PNW fully supports sharing of CD-ROM drives (and other redirector drives)
on the server. As far as I can imagine, the problem appears to be located on the
client, not the server. PNW probably refuses to map a client s drive letter to a shared
drive on the server (here a CD-ROM drive), because on the client the desired drive
letter is already in use for something else (or at least PNW thinks it s used by a local
CD-ROM drive).
Some things to test:
- Do not load NWCDEX etc. on the client (however, usually it will not install without
proper hardware+driver). Load NWCDEX only on the server. On the client side,
the CD-ROM drive will become available through the *network* redirector, not
a local CD-ROM redirector.
- Is the drive letter to be mapped to actually available on the client? Try for
example SUBST d: c:\ whereby d: stands for the CD-ROM drive letter on the client.
If this works, the drive letter appears to be avialable. Is there a conflict with another
redirector driver (e.g. other additonal networking software on the client)?
- Are you using MSCDEX on the server (maybe even with /S)? Then try to replace it
by NWCDEX.
- If the problem should actually be located on the server: Is the drive fully functional when
been accessed from the server itself? Even when accessed as mapped network
drive, not the local drive? Has the PNW user the proper rights on the shared drive?
Hope this helps... It would be interesting to hear your results...
