Just give up on free, and settle for good and inexpensive. PowerBasic
is fast, tight, powerful and cheap. I love it. The newest release lets
me build arrays in expanded memory up to 32MB. I have applications that
require me to write my own communication programs and also to sort data
files in excess of a million records. Nothing else comes close. Most of
my simple programs are in the 20k-30k range. I really have to work to
build something bigger than 100k of executable.

They are also currently talking to Caldera about some cooperation with
OpenDOS, so the future of OpenDOS/Basic is potentially very bright.

cheers,
