Subject: install Win3.1 over Open DOS HELP

Greetings,

New to the list here. I installed the beta of the most recent v of OpenDOS
about 5 days ago.

I need to install (as indicated in the header line) Win 3.1 on the OpenDOS
machine, partition. I checked the FAQs and docs as much as I could, and all
I have found, as far as advice on this, was the brief mention that it COULD
be done but <himem.sys> had to be installed before trying to install
Windows (from the Windows setup on the installation diskettes from
Microsloth, presumably). I expect this is an FAQ, please regard this as my
apology and my request for patience.

1) WHICH himem.sys from WHERE? I didn't see himem.sys in the files installed in
OpenDOS itself. Is it the himem.sys from a version of MSDOS?

2) HOW to 'install' himem.sys? In the usual way, a line in (yikes ... which
is it ...) CONFIG.SYS or (as i think i recall) AUTOEXEC.BAT?

3) IF I am on the right track, my understanding is that once you have
provided <himem.sys> for Windows Setup to "see" as it initializes, after
the install is complete one can delete that <himem.sys> from one's drive
and or from one's boot files?

I am sorry for the ignorance regarding this. I will certainly go back -- as
i have been -- and relearn my DOS basics as far as himem.sys and what it
does (I once knew and have just forgotten :) ... but in the meantime specific
advice and/or warnings from users who may have hands-on experience would be
most appreciated.

    Regards,

       soren andersen
