Subject: Xcopy replacement (was: Re: ?)

Jude,

You might want to try ZCOPY by Chris Buijs <cbuijs AT xs4all DOT nl>
 <http://www.xs4all.nl/~cbuijs/html/longword.html>

I have not tried this with OpenDos, only my PC-DOS. Neither have I used it
with the backup media you described , but I am guessing this might work with
Zcopy and its /F (fill disk) switch (see below). Anyway, I think this one
is to good to not to be mentioned here. You may want to try it out with
OpenDos as a possible good Xcopy replacement/ enhancement.

The following description is taken from Richard Green's excellent and
updated (! :-) website where he offer his reviews of various DOS freeware
programs. (Btw: Richard is OpenDos *aware* (see his pages) so I would guess
he have tested it with OD also, but I can not say this for sure. Better test
it your self first before you relay on it to do major backups for you)

The following clip is taken from:

1. Zcopy- Xcopy, copy or move files. With date filters and fill floppy
option.

* * * *
Zcopy may be the only xcopy or move replacement you'll need. Includes
several date and time filter options. It can compare files in different
directories and perform updates. Zcopy can also pack files onto floppies
efficiently. Zcopy doesn't offer any special switches for filtering files by
attribute combinations. New version (5-97) compatible with year 2000 and
beyond.

Usage: ZCOPY <SourcePath+FileSpec> [<TargetPath>] [<Params>]

[/A]............Only copy/move files with archive-attribute set.
[/DE[:MM-DD-YYYY]].Copy/move files with date.
[/DY[:MM-DD-YYYY]].Copy/move files with or younger then date.
[/DO[:MM-DD-YYYY]].Copy/move files with or older then date.
[/F]............Fill diskette.
[/I].............Copy/move-operation CANNOT be interrupted with ESC.
[/M]...........Move files instead of copy.
[/N]...........Only copy/move changed files.
[/P]...........Prompt before overwriting files.
[/Q]...........Quiet mode, no screen-updates.
[/S]...........Copy sub-directories-structures (also empty ones).
[/TE[:HH:MM:SS]]...Copy/move files with time.
[/TY[:HH:MM:SS]]...Copy/move files with or younger then time.
[/TO[:HH:MM:SS]]...Copy/move files with or older then time.
[/U]............Update, synchronize source and target directory.
[/?]............Help-screen.

Also, have a look at Richard's other links and reviews at:

PS: Aslo check out the new LOCATE, by Charles Dye <raster AT highfiber DOT com>, -
it soon became one of my favorite utilities :-)
