This sort of thing has happened to me; the problem is that many
versions of the fdisk utility mess up the partition structure one way
or another if partitions were created by some other version of fdisk,
especially if they contain non-DOS partitions.

It is possible to recover them, so long as you get to the partition
table early enough with a good utility. I fix up such problems
manually quite easily (e.g. using an old version of NU is good enough),
I've also been working on an automated program to do the same job. I'm
prettty sure there are newer versions of Norton Utilities that will do
the job for you. If you don't have it, or you want to be extra safe,
grab a copy of my fdisk.exe and use it only to see what is on the disk,
let me know, and I can help you further. It is worth trying the 6th
option ("Find and fix faults") in my program to see what is wrong, but
safest not to choose any changes until I know what exactly has happened to
the partitions.

Grab...

and try option 4 then option 6 (press ESC after you see what option 6 gives).
