I am already getting a small taste of what the new age of Network
Computers will be like..
My email address is at usa.net, an advertising-funded free
email service, on the other side of the world from me.
Now: to access this, members get an account which is accessable
via the web, using a bizarre CGI-powered email reader.
It's _horrible_!
Fortunately each weekend I can connect to the server directly via pop3
and use eudora (maybe linux in the future..), like a normal person.
From university the firewall prevents me from doing this.
It's very useful because it takes the load off my regular email
address, and I can access the Opendos list anywhere.
But I'd rather die than see all software run through Java like this
mailer.
If you wish to try it, http://www.usa.net.
It's free and you can cancel any time (I don't intend to though).
