Hi,

to avoid doubled work and problems with later synchronization, I would
like to announce that I am currently in the process to update the
OpenDOS 7.01 IBMBIO.COM sources (which at present are at the Novell
DOS 7 update 11 level as of December 1994) to include *all* the
patches of update 15/2 (as of January 1996). It appears to me, as if
Caldera cannot provide these patches for-what-reasons-ever, and thus
requires ca. 30-50 KByte of the code to be rewritten, in snippets all
over the source files...
Also I would like to do some size optimizations, and if I find enough
time for this schedule, I'd also like to smack in some new patches,
including some AddOns for better MS-DOS 7 compatibility. Maybe,
optionally MS-DOS alike boot-menus as macros/aliases to the DR DOS
style. I hope, this could be finished within the next 3 weeks or
at least during this month (no promise), and I will sure make the
changes available to Caldera and all other interested people from
the list.

IMHO, *before* further enhancing the kernel, we should at least
move all the kernel files to the update 15/2 level. Otherwise, if
other patches will be put in before, we'd loose alot of significant
Novell DOS patches and would come completely out of sync. So, after
finishing with IBMBIO.COM, I plan to go further with IBMDOS.COM and
COMMAND.COM. But, to get a stable OpenDOS working, if in the meantime
someone else was willing to take this necessary job for COMMAND.COM or
IBMDOS.COM, we could have it sooner and I would be glad...

I still hope, someone will stop me from damaging my brain by saying
the remaining patches were available somewhere in source-code form...
:-(

 Matthias
