One of the things Mircosoft did _right_ was bootlog.txt and bootlog.prv.

I have even adopted this idea for one of my programs.  (Avios 2)

For those of you who don't know, on bootup, win95 logs everything
into bootlog.txt.  If there is already one (99.99% of the time) it
is renamed to bootlog.prv.

That way you always keep the previous log.
