I think, failing a better description, GEM could could be quite adequately
described like that.
GEOS is a multithreaded, preemptive, graphical object oriented GUI/OS that
uses virtual memory and demand paging. It's CDE compliant, but the modular
design means you can replace the entire UI module with one you like better. It
uses minimal resources (a 286 with 640kB memory; it will run on an XT if
you're patient). You can fit a *good* word processor/DTP package/paint
program/vector drawing program into an 80kB executable. It's amazingly fast,
due to efficient coding. It even supports long filenames. Try:
