I pointed XDEL at a non-existent directory, like this: C:\> XDEL /D/S BOOGER and it deleted _all_ the empty subdirectories on the disk after telling me it couldn't find BOOGER. I guess that, in retrospect, DOSBOOK is a bit vague as it simply says "/D Removes empty subdirectories" without specifying whether that is limited to subdirectories involved in the command...
