! - valid filename character
@ - valid filename character - also used for response files
# - valid filename character
% - environment var dereferencer
^ - 4DOS command separator character (Also doorway.exe uses it)
& - Lets reserve this baby for future background processing :o)
* - wildcard.  Try DIR *

A better candidate would be then YEN symbol.  :o)
