Subject: [opendos] How safe is diskopt?
Sender: owner-opendos AT mail DOT tacoma DOT net

Does anyone know how safe the disk optimser is for OpenDOS?

I have heard that there are 'uncrashable' ones that keep your data intact even
if a power failure occurs.

Reason...

While I was still using DR-DOS, I optimised one of my disks and went to do
something else. Imagine my dismay when I switched on the monitor and saw
the message:

EMM386: write attempted to BDOS kernel

Amazingly none of my data was damaged although the optimiser had crashed
part-way through.

I have no wish to repeat this experience, or if I have to, I would like to know
that may data will always survive..

So, how safe is the program?
