Subject: [opendos] Selecting "text mode" screen display in installation and utility programmes

A few days ago, a subscriber to this list asked whether it was possible to
set the OpenDOS installation and utility programmes to use standard text
mode for screen display. The answer can be found in the readme.txt file
that comes with OpenDOS: text mode may be selected in any of three ways.
(1) Specify the /n parameter on the command line when running any of the
affected programmes. (2) Edit the file named opendos.ini which can be
found in the opendos directory, or on the first installation disk. Change
the line which says:
NEWUI = ON
to read:
NEWUI = OFF

Note that once this change has been made, all of the programmes which
obtain parameters for controlling the screen display fro opendos.ini will
henceforth run in text mode.

(3) The settings in opendos.ini, including the "text mode" selection, can
also be changed via the setup programme.

When the OpenDOS utilities are operating in text mode, the system's cursor
always follows any highlight bar which is present on the screen.
Specifically, the cursor appears immediately to the left of the highlight
bar. This feature is extremely beneficial for those who are using braille
or speech devices, together with screen access software, to interact with
their computers. It should therefore be retained in future versions of the
operating system.

In the readme.txt file mentioned above, the opendos.ini file is
erroneously called nwdos.ini. This is an error in the documentation.
