Hmm... to recompile Linux kernel you use *only* one compiler (excluding 
assemblers) and *one* linker (well, two...).
To recompile OpenDOS you'd have to install 5 different commercial tools, and 
that takes both time when compiling and space when installing.

I've started to design a sample format for such a dynamically loadable module 
that'd plug neatly into kernel (but don't worry, it won't be Plug & Pray(tm)
