They wouldn't, but they would cheer loudly.

Use the ANSI.SYS that you have then.  If it works, then don't fix
it.  It's doubtful that any new ANSI.SYS features are coming out
soon.

Use PCANSI.COM.

4DOS is 4DOS.COM and it is 170k.
(Internally it is an EXE file, however for some reason they've
renamed it to a COM file.  DOS looks at the first 2 characters of
a file before running it though and see's "MZ" so it runs it as
an EXE.  Strange eh?)
