A while ago when I was downloading MSIE (yes, I know, it was stupid),
my connection kept timing out. Even different servers did not help.
I've also had that problem downloading other large files. Here are
some things I did to solve it:

* Used an old 16 bit winsock. (Trumpet Winsock) You must also use a 16
bit client.
* Netscape times out frequently, but a dedicated FTP client, such as
WS_FTP seems to work much better.
