Greetings,

I ran into this problem again lately. According to the Master Attributes
Document (aka List), under "refdes" - "refdes naming restrictions",
there is a bulleted list under "Specifically, gsch2pcb requires:". The
3rd bullet states that "Any lower case suffix is ignored. This is so you
can, place four discrete NAND gates on the schematic called U1a, U1b,
U1c and U1d. They will netlist into a single footprint named U1."

My experience is that this is not true. The lower case suffix is not
ignored and propagates into the netlister and the outputs of gsch2pcb,
causing problems in PCB. This feature has been in the document at least
since 2015. Either this is a bug and should be fixed, or this feature
should be deleted from the Master Attributes List document.

I do have a workaround that others may find useful for this feature. I
remove the suffix from the symbol refdes attribute and add a separate
"Comment" attribute to the schematic symbol with the appropriateĀ
letter, I then position the comment letter at the end of the refdes.
Looks the same, but contains no intelligence to mess up the netlister
and gsch2pcb. I tested it and it works.

Girvin Herr
