I would say gEDA is even better than that. It can be
a minivan or a manual transmission Lambourghini, or a F150
truck, with minimum effort to transform, if you know
how.

It's the architecture of the gEDA that brought me here to
use and expand the tool. Before I made this choice, I had
looked into other free tools, including QUC, Electric,
etc., dived down into their codes and design architectures.
Deep down, the gEDA architecture resembles those of the
high-end VLSI schematic tools I have worked with: very
GENERIC, scalable, and expandable schematic graphic
interface with highly customizable scripting interface,
resulting in unlimited possibilities of interfacing with
ANY downstream backend CAE tools with MINIMUM effort and
with the LEAST RESTRICTION.

Of course, gEDA still have its shortcomings, and missing a
few key features, and has a long way to go to compete with
the million dollar commercial VLSI schematic tools, but its
a very good start with a solid foundation in terms of its
architecture.

In the VLSI design world, with so many rapidly changing
innovative downstream languages/tools being invented and
improved, how well a frontend tools (like gEDA) can adapt
is one of the most important feature I am looking for.

Therefore, for me, different from some users, those feature
specific CAE tools like QUC, Electric, KiCad, Fritzing, etc
are just not what I would look for to spend a second on.

This is just my own perspective from a VLSI design
architect's point of view.

In MY opinion (you didn't ask for it, but I didn't ask for yours either), gEDA's great success is that it's readily available, free, (sorta-)multi-platform, and I can...sit down and make circuit boards.

KiCAD is a comfortable minivan for easy highway driving, while gEDA is a high clearance vehicle with manual transmission and transfer case for challenging conditions. Our strength is going the places KiCAD can’t.
