Arguing about the merits of measuring system doesn't magically make
all those imperial-dimensioned parts go away.

In my humble opinion, people decide for themselves whether they want
to use metric or imperial parts, and we try to respect those choices.

If you never use an imperial part, you should never see an imperial
unit in your file, so the compromise shouldn't affect you at all.
