It could be rather good.

I started with a workflow diagram in dia.

A common problem not handled well with the commercial tools I worked with is to change part numbers and the addition of revision information. It is a very common task to adjust some values in the schematic during development.

Revision handling worked great in the old days with documents in paper format, the person in charge could simply add a suitable revision number and a signature to approve the document. With digital documents and a workflow like this: schematic --> netlist --> layout --> gerber, BOM, ... --> approval, it is a real horror. In particular there should be no need to update the layout and gerber files for a simple change of component value.
