I agree, that is a much better approach. Thanks for the patch - I had a 
quick go at applying it - it needs re-diffing in order to become 
applicable to the 20140316 tarball. It will be some time until I get to 
this - but it needs to be done in order to make 20140316 useable without 
restrictions.
