I'd be completely fine with this approach. But this is to be expected as I 
never touched any other work-flow than gschem->pcb->gerbv. I don't see 
that I am tempted to use any of the utilities in the future.

Probably, everybody else on this list is in a similar situation. In a way, 
this is to be expected for basically abandoned parts of the code base.
