I'm positive the size of this "IF" is a thing of the past. Over the  
last few weeks it was demonstrated pushing contributions to the repo  
more openly doesn't lead to global meltdown.

A patch doesn't neccessarily mean a golden solution is already done.  
Almost always when I look at such reports there are additional issues  
to consider, they require testing, design/UI behaviour decisions, etc.

Feel free to test such patches to find out how good they are. If they  
intend to change gEDA's behaviour, describe and discuss them here.  
And there is also quite a number of years old bug reports which beg  
for re-evaluation.

Plenty of opportunities to create progress, even for inexperienced  
developers. <-- which doesn't mean I consider you to be  
inexperienced ;-)
