It is doable but requires deeper changes to the internals of gschem.
And as with any automated behavior, one would like to make sure things
do not happen in an unexpected way.
Your illustration covers only one case, and there are many more...

I'll share some of the ideas/diagrams I have in my notebook for this
once I have more spare time.

Maybe someone has seen a piece of schematic capture software that has
similar functionality that behaves satisfactorily? Because I have not,
and having a chance to play with such software would be of great help.
