Thanks for testing.

It would be great to test if other software using cairo/pango suffer
from similar problems.

Would it be possible for you to test inkscape?
IncScape is using cairo, does scaling, and is high quality software, so
it is good candidate for testing. If Inkscape has not these problems,
then there may exist some problems in gschem which we may consider to
fix.

In my opinion applications should NOT depend on special fonts directly
-- gschem depends on cairo, and cairo should work fine whenever it is
available.
