I found that is so for me too.

I'm trying to find ways to minimize that effort by keeping a pin list 
and the tell the program what parts of it should go to resp.
(sub-) symbol.

Assuming there is no pain in creating and maintaining that set of
symbols, what pain is left ?

Perhaps one should some way to check that a subpart isn't included 
twice and such.
