If I understand Tibor’s opinion correctly it is not the format that is faulty, but rather that KiCADs parser makes assumptions based on the expected output of its writer.

You can only have one instance of the project manager running, but you can open up multiple copies of the individual programs and copy-paste between them, which is fair comparison to geda given the latter’s lack of a project manager to start with.
