On the topic of converters, there is

https://github.com/erichVK5/translate2geda

which, once compiled (java), will allow you to convert various symbol
formats to gEDA gschem/lepton .sym files

But most of the functionality of this is a subset of current or imminent
sch-rnd/pcb-rnd foreign file format infrastructure.

As another commentator has pointed out, for a generic "n" terminal devices
like headers, parametric symbols such as in sch-rnd minimise your library
bloat.
