If there are symbol files in those directories, the installation is fine!

Window menu, library. Or press w then l (we write that {w l} for short). 
This opens the library window. Either navigate the tree, or enter 
something, like resistor, in the bottol left filter. Select a symbol from 
the tree on the left side, it gets copied into the buffer. Place it on the 
sheet. It's the same process as placing footprints in pcb-rnd.

I really recommend watching at least the 'getting started' tutorial video. 
You can try to explore and figure these things without the tutoral, but it 
takes longer than watching the video.
