There are two macros: AM_PATH_PYTHON([2.7]) PKG_CHECK_MODULES([PYTHON],[python2 >= 2.7]) they fail to find any pthon-2.x on my machine even though I ghave versions 2.7.17, 3.6.10 and 3.8.2 2. Python2 is on its way out. if you are pushing out guile in favor of python, why not using newest stable available (3.8) ?
