I identified w_current->smob as a source of random crashes and applied 
commit 7cd8b93 by Peter TB Brett to fix it.  This may or may not solve the 
issue; there may be another bug that causes random crashes.

If you are affected by random crashes, please try the latest `master' to 
see if this fixes the issue for you.
