This is probably a Fedora thing. You'll have to read up on Fedora. I use debian since a long time and don't know Red hat anything recent. As in " Fedora howto config geda" I commented out the: (attribute-name "digikey-p/n") (attribute-name "p/n") (attribute-name "footprint") and gsch2pcb worked. I'm trying to remember why those lines were in my gafrc file but I can't. This is Bas's suggestion working! Fedora has fewer configs necessary than debian. "If in doubt delete it." works some of the time!
