OK, it's Fedora, not windows, but same thing -- have not used fedora or red hat lately, just debian.

cd /home/Rob/.gEDA and look at gafrc and gschemrc there.   /home/Rob/gaf/MyKoolRide/gafrc or /home/Rob/gaf/MyKoolRide/gschemrc
overrides /home/Rob/.gEDA/gschemrc   be sure that
  (attribute-name "footprint")
is in there.
