At the moment we have a similar global (per board) setting called 
thermal_scale.

I have a plan for upgrading the thermal support. The main problem is 
that the thermal is a "side effect": automatically calculated from the 
shape. This first sounds like a good idea (you specify a few values only 
once, globally, and it automatically controls all thermals) but may end up 
with:

- corner cases that are hard to control

- compatibility traps ("do not touch any part of this 1000 lines function 
because it may break how thermals on existing boards are rendered").

When the new, more controlled thermal stuff happens mainly depends on 
demand (user pull).

Yup, for example it got the advanced grid config (including grid 
doubling/halving and the [ and ] key bindings). IIRC you requested some of 
these back in April.

Yeah, I waited for too long with that change. I probably should have done 
it back in 2015.
