We were specifically catering to the inhabitants of Numenor,
descendants of the Edain of the First Age, who were granted the island
of Elenna as a dwelling place, who then turned against the Valar, at
which point their island home was destroyed in the last years of the
Second Age.

The confusion is understandable.
