I came across a site with archived debian packages for old debian
releases, and there seem to be example files of a suitable vintage in
the sarge distro archive:

https://archive.debian.net/sarge/electronics/

in particular:

https://archive.debian.net/sarge/all/geda-examples/filelist

i.e. http://archive.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/geda-examples/geda-examples_20050313.orig.tar.gz

contains some release1.7.1.ALPHA example .pcb files

There are also older versions of PCB source available from the debian
woody distro

I found a release: 1.4pl0 example file called "68HC11" in

http://archive.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/pcb/pcb_1.7.1.orig.tar.gz

There are also example files from pcb versions:

pcb 1.6.BETA
pcb 1.4.1

in the debian slink package:

http://archive.debian.org/debian/dists/slink/main/source/electronics/pcb_1.6.orig.tar.gz

The most ancient version of code I could find, from debian bo, is available at:

http://archive.debian.org/debian/dists/bo/main/binary-i386/electronics/pcb_1.4.3-1.deb

The https://archive.debian.net/ repository is the only place I could
find online with readily available older releases of gEDA pcb and gEDA
tools more generally, which is a relief, as I did not want to try and
dig up old redhat or debian CDs in case they had some older versions
of the packages on them.

Incidentally, the
http://www.brorson.com/gEDA/geda-install-20050329.iso no longer
seems to be available on line.

From a data preservation perspective/industrial archaeology
perspective, perhaps the gEDA project should consider collecting the
older tar.gz releases and preserving them on a central repository for
future reference.

Cheers,

Erich.
