That command was invoked by me beforehand, before this thread was
posted. Those commands created a directory and populated it with
everything *except* a version.h file.

Those commands were run by me beforehand. Although the first two
commands successfully ran they did not create version.h. And when "make"
ran it displayed:
make: don't know how to make version.h. Stop
The root Makefile contains comments in lines 964-970 that more-or-less
advise people to extract version.h from the tarball if necessary. After
the extraction of version.h, "make" successfully runs until it reaches
the "po" directory.
cd geda-gaf/xorn/po
make xorn.pot-update
At that point "make" displays a whole slew of errors.
src/python/command.py:111: warning:
'msgid' format string with unnamed arguments cannot be properly localized:
The translator cannot reorder the arguments.
Please consider using a format string with named arguments,
and a mapping instead of a tuple for the arguments.
It seems to indicate an internationalization issue on my FreeBSD 10.0
host.
Thank you,

It has long been know that one horse can run faster than another - but
which one? Differences are crucial.
