I think you've got the same misunderstanding I did about it.  It looks like
an option but two of them actually fire when the menu item is selected,
not when the import happens.  They set the position to be used when they
are activated.

Sounds right.  I guess the distinction is that things that one might
reasonably want to change multiple times within one board or session are
menu item options, other things go in preferences.
